In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Dear brothers, inspired by the ayaat in Surat Yusuf, peace be upon him, a Muslim scientist obtained two international patents, one in Europe and the other one in America, for the manufacture of the cataract curing eye-drops. He said: “While reciting the Qur’an one morning this amazing account caught my attention and made me reflect profoundly on the noble ayaat which tell us the story of Yusuf, peace be upon him, and his brothers, their plots against him, and what happened after his father had lost his sight. As is well known, he lost his sight because of the cataract (called “white-eyed” in everyday terminology), which is a clouding of the eye lens or of its membrane. In other words, the lens, which used to be transparent, become, as a result of old age or extreme anxiety, blurred or milk-like, obstructing the passage of light and causing loss of sight. The cure consisted, until then, in a relatively simple operation in which cataracts were removed and plastic lens were substituted for the damaged ones.”
This doctor read in the Qur’an that Yusuf’s father recovered his sight after his son’s shirt had been thrown over his eyes and he wondered about the relationship between the recovery and the shirt. He went on to say: “What could possibly contain Yusuf’s shirt that was capable of healing his father’s eyes, helping him to recover his sight? I realized that besides the spiritual moral of the story (as told by the Qur’an), it also contains a practical lesson that might lead us, through research, to the results confirming the validity of the Noble Qur’an. On the other hand, I believe that the whole story is a miracle that Allah Most High worked through the hands of one of His Messengers –Sayyidina Yusuf, peace be upon him. Thus, I started my research and Allah Most High guided me to the study of the issue of the connection between anxiety and cataracts. I managed to prove that there is a connection between sadness and cataract formation, as the former causes the release of adrenaline hormone, considered to be an antidote to the insulin hormone. Thus, any profound sadness, or happiness for that matter, stimulates production of adrenaline, and this, in turn, leads to the increase in the level of sugar in blood, the amount of insulin being insufficient to deal with it. This is the primary reason for cataract formation. Furthermore, it should be mentioned that sadness will be most likely accompanied by crying. The ayah we are talking about in Surat Yusuf gave us a shred of hope to find the cure for this disease.” The Qur’an mentions that Sayyidina Yaqub (Jacob) said:

(And he turned away from them and said: ‘Alas, my grief for Yusuf (Joseph)!’ And he lost his sight because of the sorrow that he was suppressing.)

[Surat Yusuf, ayah 84]

All Sayyidina Yusuf did, peace be upon him, in response to the revelation from Allah Most High, was to ask his brothers to take his shirt to their father. Allah Most High says in the Noble Qur’an:

(Go with this shirt of mine, and cast it over the face of my father, he will become clear-sighted, and bring to me all your family.)

[Surat Yusuf, ayah 93]

And also:

(Then, when the bearer of the glad tidings arrived, he cast it (the shirt) over his face, and he became clear-sighted. He said: ‘Did I not say to you, ‘I know from Allah that which you know not.’ )

[Surat Yusuf, ayah 96]

That was the start (of investigation).
So, what was it in Sayyidina Yusuf’s shirt that cured his father’s cataract?
After giving this matter much thought, this doctor came up with the assumption that it might have being human sweat and thus started to investigate in depth its components. As part of his research, he soaked in sweat the lenses removed in classical surgical operation of the cataract. He found out that gradually the state of transparency was re-established in the initially opaque lenses, which, after having been soaked in human sweat, regained their clearness.
Another important question was: Do all the components of sweat or only one of them have this effect? It was found out that only one of the sweat’s components, namely urea (guanidine), was effective. It could easily be obtained by means of a chemical process and after testing the medicine on two hundred and fifty volunteers suffering from cataract, it turned out that 90 % were cured without the need of surgical intervention. They were, simply put, cured by the eye drops made from urea (guanidine), one of the components of human sweat. The following are Allah’s Words:

(And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe.)

[Surat Al Israa, ayah 82]

In other words, the researcher we are talking about manufactured eye drops which restore transparency of the eye lens and which are effectual in 90% of cases, rendering surgery unnecessary.
Hence, dear brothers, the inimitability of this Noble Qur’an will never run out, as it contains the Words of the Creator of all the Worlds.
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

The virtue of Allah’s Words with regard to His creatures’ words is as the virtue of Allah with regard to His creatures.

[Al Tirmidhi, narrated by Abu Saeed]
